Networking. This is a word that strikes fear in the hearts of many introverts. But fear not, there are many easy ways to network in a way that does not induce a spike in cortisol levels.
Step one in networking is to go to the places where networking occurs. National or regional pharmacy meetings are great places to practice networking. My opening line is always "hey, where are you from?" This is an easy way to break the ice and strike up a conversation. Then I will follow it up with "where do you practice" or "what area of pharmacy do you practice in?" From there, the conversation can flow naturally, and you can start building your network.
But who do I talk to? Anyone! An easy place to start is by speaking to the person behind you in line or the person sitting next to you in a CE session. If this seems intimidating, find a buddy and talk to people together. Having another voice can help the conversation flow. At the end of the conversation, be sure to exchange contact information.
What tips and tricks do you use when networking?
