AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships (STPF) provide outstanding scientists and engineers with first-hand experience on the policymaking process. Fellows serve yearlong assignments, in Washington, D.C. beginning on September 1, within the federal government branches. Each year, the program provides approximately 4,000 strong policy-savvy leaders opportunities to work across academia, government, nonprofits and industry; contributing to national and global initiatives.

In the year immediately following their fellowship, approximately 40-50% of fellows continue working in the policy realm (not necessarily in federal government); 20-25% return to the sector in which they worked previously; and 20-25% view this fellowship as an opportunity to diversify their .

Hold a doctoral level science degree, including but not limited to a PharmD, or a master’s in engineering

Not be a federal employee or current full-time employee of AAAS
