APhA has the opportunity to recommend pharmacists for appointment to various federal advisory committees, task forces, and initiatives. We are seeking submissions for appointment consideration from members with diverse practice settings, backgrounds, and geographic locations for this unique opportunity.
Currently, potential opportunities include those within the federal government, specifically at HHS and ACIP. There may be other opportunities going forward beyond those listed here.
- HHS advisory committees, task forces, and initiatives are various groups and mechanisms used to provide input, advice, and guidance to HHS and its multiple agencies. These groups play a crucial role in informing policy decisions, promoting public health, and addressing specific needs within the health and human services landscape.
- ACIP uses subgroups of the committee, known as work groups, to review relevant published and unpublished data and develop recommendation options for presentation to ACIP. The goal of the ACIP work groups is to increase the effectiveness of ACIP. The work groups are responsible for collecting, analyzing, and preparing information for presentation, discussion, deliberation, and policy recommendation by ACIP in an open public forum. Work groups review specific topics in detail and clarify issues in a way that helps ACIP voting members make informed and efficient decisions, with the best and most current information available.
Experience considered (not all items applicable to each committee):
- Extensive experience in providing immunizations, in particular COVID-19, Lyme, influenza, pneumococcal, and/or RSV.
- Expert clinical knowledge and application of immunology and vaccine-related considerations, in particular for COVID-19, Lyme, influenza, pneumococcal, and/or RSV.
- Detailed knowledge and experience on prevention and management of chronic diseases through lifestyle, nutrition, and environmental health (i.e., food as medicine, wellness coaching, physical activity promotion).
- Demonstrated history of addressing exposure to environmental toxins, promoting clean water and ingredients, and reducing harmful chemicals in communities.
Please indicate your interest by completing the questions at this link.
APhA staff will compile the list of those interested for review and appointment by the APhA Board of Trustees. Upon selection by the APhA Board of Trustees, appointee(s) will be notified, and relevant work group or committee leadership will disseminate further instructions.
Appointments will be made on a rolling basis. Those interested in immunization-related appointments should apply as soon as possible.
